Katie Franklin

She's been featured on Jamie Oliver's "Food Fight Club" and created an explosive cake for Mark Hix, but baker Katie Franklin was supposed to work in fashion.
While working as a stylist's assistant she quickly realised that she wasn't cut out for Frockland and that cakes were more her bread and butter. Despite a lack of formal patisserie training she received praise for the creations she made for fashionable friends, and in 2010 founded her company Pomp de Franc, naming it after Madame de Pompadour's private patisserie chef. Franklin now produces made-to-order confections, and in a neat twist her clients include the fashion houses Meadham Kirchoff, Mulberry and Lanvin.
