Spirit of Independence

Indpendent Venue Week is a seven day celebration of the small venues dotted around the UK, where on any given night the public can see live music for a relative pittance and find their new favourite band – possibly even see future world beaters. It was founded by Sybill Bell and Joe Edwards, at a time when grass roots live music in the UK finds itself increasingly under threat from residential developers and transport infrastructure projects, particularly in London. The initiative is now in its second year and has seen a five fold increase in the number of venues taking part. Artists playing in 2015 include Laura Marling, Clinic, These Ghosts, Julian Cope, Frank Turner, Ghostpoet and The Yardbirds.
