Spiritland: Eat to the Beat

Music in a restaurant setting is difficult to get right. Many fail. The tempo, the timbre... the lonely pianist absent-mindedly stroking the keys on a seemingly endless coda. Sometimes a stoney silence can be a most welcome dinner guest.

Spiritland, "a bold new concept in hospitailty", is looking to change that. Currently resident at Angela Hartnett and Neil Borthwick's much-admired Merchants Tavern, in East London, Spiritland is opening it's diverse music library to a sucession of guest DJs, including Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor and rock journalist Pete Paphides. Music is played through a difficult to miss analogue sound system in the bar area. The aim is to accompany, rather than intrude, on the dining experience, so you literally can eat to the beat.

Spiritland's residency at Merchants Tavern runs until 1 January 2015, after which there are plans to open a permanent restaurant, bar and member's club. For a full schedule, click HERE.
